Social Justice and Giving A F*CK

Caring About People Who Aren't You

Have some free time? Why Don't You...

… register to become a bone marrow donor?
… become a mentor to a child?
… help build a house for a family in need?
Aric supported a variety of organizations: he donated blood to the Red Cross, organized a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders, donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center and volunteered at local Food Banks.  He was especially interested in refugee communities, Palestinian nationalism, women's rights and the Black Lives Matter movement. Below are some organizations whose mission statements resonated with him. For Charities related specifically to Palestine, see here.

RESOURCES FOR SUPPORTING SELECTED CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS

The organizations listed on this page have broad mission statements but participate in campaigns for specific causes ranging from lawsuits against the United Clans of America to abolishing the death penalty in the US to assisting Syrian refugees. Find a few issues that resonate with you and learn about the wide range of ways you can contribute to an organization to help. All organizations need administrative support. Both volunteer and full time employment opportunities are available at any of the groups listed below. Check out this artists for Oxfam page for ideas on how your music, paintings, poetry or other art can help fundraising efforts.

Southern Poverty Law Center

The Southern Poverty Law Center is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society.  Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the Center works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.
We employ a three-pronged strategy to battle racial and social injustice:
  • We track the activities of hate groups and domestic terrorists across America, and we launch innovative lawsuits that seek to destroy networks of radical extremists.
  • We use the courts and other forms of advocacy to win systemic reforms on behalf of victims of bigotry and discrimination.
  • We provide educators with free resources that teach school children to reject hate, embrace diversity and respect differences.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who take injustice personally. We are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.

We investigate and expose the facts, whenever and wherever abuses happen.

We lobby governments, and other powerful groups such as companies. Making sure they keep their promises and respect international law.

By telling the powerful stories of the people we work with, we mobilize millions of supporters around the world to campaign for change and to stand in defence of activists on the frontline.

We support people to claim their rights through education and training.

We work directly with communities and we seek to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them.
